Derek was born in SW Virginia in 1980 and after graduating from Carroll County High School he attended Ferrum College and was a member of the football team.  After attending Ferrum College for 2 years he transferred to Virginia Tech where he graduated with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management.  After graduation, Derek moved on to Raleigh, NC and Charleston, SC where he started a career in the hotel industry.  In 2007, he moved back to SW Virginia to manage Hotel Floyd and eventually starting Thomas & Wall Real Estate in 2011.

Joy has served on the Board for the past four years promoting  Floyd  County to Businesses and Tourist in the  New River  Valley and beyond.  Joy is an Account Executive for Citizens a regional full service communications provider.  Joy has been with Citizens over 11 years starting out in Residential Customer Service and moving to Business Development in 2007. 

Her background in Customer Service began in 1986 working for Wolf Camera & Video in  Atlanta,GA managing their Downtown location.  She later moved to Virginia working at  Ferrum  College while pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration.  She and her husband moved back to Floyd in 1994 where she managed her families True Value Hardware store for 6 ½ years before starting at Citizens.

Her greatest accomplishments are her two boys Adam and Baily who attend  Floyd  County  High School .  Her personal interest include: gardening, camping, and horseback riding.

Born in Michigan, 1951. Graduated from U of Mich w/degree in political philosophy. Worked for Amtrak as accident/claims investigator for (12) years. Opened/sold small private investigation firm, NYC.

In 1991 joined his wife Melodie in their own company, Marinnco, a professional innkeeping firm. Together operated properties in Conn, VA and Ohio. One of the properties was the Mountain Rose Inn from 1997 until 2005.

Volunteered as docent, Kennedy Ctr, DC, docent, Boston by Foot, Boston, "Golden Girls charitable productions, Miami, FL, Humane Society, NYC.

Served as a board member, regional rep and Secretary for the  Bed  & Breakfast Association of VA; a docent, elected board member and Treasurer  for the Essex Co Museum/Historical Society; Chairman Essex Co Sesquicentennial Committee for the Virginia CW 150 Commission.

Currently a member of the Franklin Co CW 150 Committee, Book Committee and 2nd Vice President of the Floyd Co Historical Society and Museum.

Lives in Floyd County with his wife and several animal companions.

Ivan Anderson
The Healing Tree 

Ivan Anderson is a healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience—12 years in Managed Care and 11 years in Complimentary and Alternative Medicine.  Ivan has worked for two of the three largest health insurers in the Philadelphia metropolitan area with responsibilities in areas such as proposal writing, sales management and Actuarial systems analysis.  For eight years, he successfully ran his own software development company which provided management and technical oversight for the design, implementation and support of complex managed care data management and reporting systems for government, profit and nonprofit organizations.  Ivan ended his corporate career as a Senior Manager for Lockheed Martin where he helped Lockheed develop workflow processes to implement change within their Corporate Health and Wellness Organization.

Complementing his managed care career, Ivan is a Shiatsu Therapist and an Energy Medicine Practitioner.  He and his wife Lynise are co-owners of the Healing Tree Wellness Center, located in Floyd, Virginia. Here, Ivan continues to share his gift by helping clients improve their health and eliminate pain.  His work now extends beyond his locale and is being received across the U.S. and internationally.  Ivan is a Certified Shiatsu Practitioner and is a Master Karate Instructor.  He also has a B.B.A. degree in Actuarial Science from Temple University.

Ivan and his wife reside in Floyd with his 15 year old step-daughter Cierra.

Tuggle's Gap Restaurant and Motel

Cheri was born in Missoula, Montana and has lived in many places in the US. Although she enjoyed most of them, Southwest Virginia and specifically, Tuggles Gap have been home for 20 years. She is a horse lover and owns three beautiful, bright eyed animals that continuously teach her things about life. 

Tuggles Gap Restaurant & Motel is her business and passion and she is grateful to her many customers and friends. She looks forward to the many opportunities ahead that will allow her to better serve this community.

Amanda was born and raised in Floyd County.  She graduated from Floyd County High School and attended New River Community College.  She has worked at Stellar One for 11 years.  She and her husband of 11 years, Jason Lawrence, have been blessed with 3 wonderful sons—Matthew, Devan, and Jayden. 

 
John Getgood
Lilies of the Valley Farm

John graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point with a BS degree in 1960. During his 30 years of service he spent over 8 years in Germany and served two combat tours in Vietnam.  He retired at the rank of Colonel in 1990. John taught Chemistry at his alma mater after receiving his MA in Chemistry from John Hopkins University.

 During his first “retirement,” John spent 11 years in the corporate world as Director. of Corporate Development for a telecommunications engineering firm in VA Beach. He’s now in his “second retirement” as a gentleman farmer in Floyd County, staying involved in many civic and nonprofit activities including, the Floyd Co. Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and currently as a Vice-President of the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce, He also serves as an elder of the Floyd Presbyterian Church. John is currently the Treasurer of Blue Ridge Heritage, Inc.

 

Rick Parrish
Fancies and Follies

Rick Parrish is a Virginia native (originally from Chesterfield County) and has lived in the New River Valley since 1987. A Licensed Virginia Realtor since 1998, Rick operates the Floyd Office of McCraw Real Estate and Auction Company and is co-owner with his wife Nancy of Fancies and Follies Consignment Home Furnishings in the Village Green, Downtown Floyd. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech where he studied Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. Rick is also a Graduate, Realtor Institute (GRI), Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) and Certified Feng Shui Consultant. Rick has served as volunteer, board member and officer of several NRV non-profits, including Voluntary Action Center, Habitat For Humanity of the New River Valley, Rotary Club of Floyd County and the Montgomery County, Radford City, Floyd County Chapter of the NAACP.

Rick and Nancy, his wife of 32 years reside in the Town of Floyd and enjoy reading, gardening and the occasional hike in the surrounding countryside. Besides selling real estate, managing rental properties and operating Fancies & Follies, Rick enjoys working on their 100(+) year old house, yard and related “projects”, reading on a variety of subjects, especially world religion and spending time with old and new friends in and around Floyd. They have one daughter, Jessi who is married to Scott (Turner) Howell formerly of Floyd who resides in Hampton, Virginia with their two children Tiamon and Norah.

Deborah has 25 years as a Human Resources professional and is currently the Human Resources Manager for the Inn at Virginian Tech & Skelton Conference Center. The first 10 years of her career were spent in college administration. She and her husband owned their own wedding business for 15 years in MA called Schrader Photography. She now lives in Floyd with her husband and two cats Pumpkin & Misty.

Keith Toler
Chateau Morrisette Winery

Keith Toler currently serves as Marketing Director for Chateau Morrisette Winery. He is a seasoned marketing professional with more than twenty years experience as a destination travel marketer. His previous positions include leadership roles with Convention and Visitor Bureaus in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and Portsmouth, Virginia. He has served on the Boards of Directors for a variety of professional associations, advisory groups and local non-profit organizations, including the Travel Association of New Mexico, the Bucks County Arts Council, and the Tourism Curriculum Advisory Board at Old Dominion University. Toler holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Memphis, both in communication studies. In his leisure time, he enjoys hiking, traveling, the visual and performing arts, and exploring the backroads of southwestern Virginia.

Melodie comes to the chamber after 20 years of managing her own company, Marinnco, an Inn management firm. Along with her husband, she operated several award- winning inns both in Connecticut and Virginia including the Mountain Rose Inn in Woolwine. She has been a member of the local chambers at all of her venues and served as a board member on the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce. Before returning to the Floyd area in 2010, she and her husband received the “Key to the City” of Tappahannock for their work with several non-profits including the Friends of the Essex County Library, of which she served on the board as Vice President.

Born and raised in Phoenix, she graduated from Northern Arizona University with a dual degree in Interior Design and Marketing.  

Her personal interests include film, literature, horseback riding and Civil War Living History.
